The depth map plays a key role in many applications such as relief, bas-relief, 3D printing, sculpture. SculptOK is an online website APP that makes it easy to generate high-quality depth maps, and this tutorial will explain how to do it.
Step1: Prepare an image you wish to generate
In this case, we just use this Viking avatar picture as example.
Step2: Upload image in SculptOK
In the SculptOK Depth Map Generation page, we select above image which we want to transform into a depth map, and upload it.
Step3: Setting and Drawing
After the image is uploaded, we need to do the following steps to draw the depth-map:
Choose the type of image you uploaded, in this case, we choose color image
Choose One-click mode. This mode is easy to use for beginners.
Click Draw
Step4: Getting the depth map!
Congratulation! By this point, you’ve got the high-quality depth maps. The first depth map is generally used to play a role in the generation process, and we can just focus on the next three depth maps.
Step5: Checking 3D performance
We can click 3D preview at the bottom of each image to see how it looks in 3D. The parameters in the upper right corner allow us to get a more satisfactory 3D model. At the end, we can download this model click Download STL.
Showcase
We consumed some Credits to get the watermark-free HD depth map and downloaded the STL model to get the following model. This model can basically be used directly with a CNC machine, laser engraving machine or a 3D printer to create a beautiful relief!
